What does the law say about CBD?

CBD is becoming a big business and seems to be everywhere. You can find it from pharmacies to gas stations. There are CBD products for humans and not only because there is a wide range of products for animals also. These CBD-containing products may come in the form of oils, gummies, creams, or sprays. Yet again, even though the massive spread of CBD products is obvious, there are some strange facts flowing around. First, selling CBD is not for everyone, and second, buying CBD products is legal under some conditions.  So, if CBD is derived from industrial hemp, then it means it has a low amount of THC, thus makes it legal. But, what is a low amount of THC or a legal amount of THC? This question is one of the many in the long history of criminalizing cannabis in America.

For years, cannabis strains were used as an option of relaxation, medical benefits such as fighting the side effects derived from cancer chemotherapy. The amount of scientific research on the field is growing day after day. Some of these studies have come up with new confirmations on the safety of using CBD. It is a well-known fact that cannabis is one of the oldest plants for human benefit. This plant occupies a unique status or space in the plant’s world.

What do you need to know about CBD and hemp legality?

In order to be legal by federal law, hemp should not contain more than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol or THC as we know it. Everything else or every other strain or variety that contains more than that is a different classification, marijuana. Another important thing about legality is that hemp crops can accidentally start growing marijuana. This kind of marijuana that contains more than the legal amount of THC, happens because of pollination. So, this drives us to another fact: if your CBD comes from a crop that contains marijuana, it’s illegal. Better said: if your CBD contains too much tetrahydrocannabinol, it’s illegal. Pollination and sexual reproduction of cannabis can easily happen. Cannabis plants are either male or female and their pollen can spread for miles.

The process of extracting THC and CBD from cannabis is very similar. As a result, CBD can easily be mixed with THC, if the extraction is not proper. Furthermore, not all states have the same laws, some of them have restrictions on the possession of CBD. But, in those states that CBD is legal, you can buy it under federal law if it contains less than 0.3% THC.

Can CBD help cure everything?

When we say, THC is psychoactive and causes addiction, while CBD is not psychoactive, that is not entirely true. CBD is psychoactive in a positive way, as it affects us differently than THC and does not intoxicate us. In fact, the endocannabinoid system is responsible for most of the tasks of our organism. Endocannabinoids can operate as neurotransmitters using two receptors, CB1 and CB2. To give you the idea that CBD can help cure a lot of pathologies but not all of them, you should keep in mind that the Drug Association has approved only one drug from CBD so far. A medication called Epidiolex which helps treat epilepsy.

In conclusion, CBD helps maintain a healthy balance of our nervous system, it does not intoxicate us and protects the brain. In addition to that, CBD does not cause addiction, reduces anxiety, and gives an important hand on treating many pathologies and health disorders.
